Chantal Christina Khoury
(pronounced Shawn-tal Kristina Cory)
Halifax, Nova Scotia
I am a (semi) professional baker!
My name is Chantal Khoury, and I am 23 year old true blue Haligonian. I am first generation settler, and I am fully bilingual in both English and French. I am passionate about environmental and political issues, leadership, culinary, and corporate social responsibility. I am in my final year of the Bachelor of Management program, with a major in Environment, Sustainability & Society (and a minor in French!!) here at Dalhousie University, and I am ready to finish what I started this year as your VP Finance and Operations.
In my term, I have prioritized food security and student advocacy by providing much need resources and assistance to the DSU Farmers Market and Food Bank. I have sat at government and university round-tables to advocate for students’ access to education by lowering tuition costs, and asking for more physically accessible infrastructure. I want to finish what I had started by institutionalizing my sustainability and equity priorities for the union.
The DSU executive is full of leaders. My degree in Management has afforded my the skill of managing finance, people and projects. This past year has allowed to hone in on those skills work with other leaders so we can best apply our skills and drive the organization forward, depending on the needs of the individuals it serves. As a sustainability student, you’re taught to be problem solver, and to look for problems that may not even exist yet. You’re taught to provide a full analysis of your environment, and how you can improve it. These two programs have made me especially passionate about corporate social responsibility, and community engagement.
